Enertrag selects Elogen to supply a 10-MW PEM electrolyzer

Elogen, a GTT group company, signed a contract with the European specialist in renewable energy solutions, Enertrag SE to design and produce a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer with a power of 10 MW. Elogen will install its technology on a site near Magdeburg, in Germany, in 2024. The project is one of many green H2 projects developed by Enertrag in North and Middle Germany.

The Elogen electrolyzer will produce up to 4 tpd of green H2, the electrical energy needed for electrolysis coming exclusively from renewable sources.

The electrolyzer will enable the power system to compensate for wind and solar fluctuations. The green H2 produced will contribute to decarbonizing heavy industry and long-distance trucking, to producing electricity in the event of dark-doldrums and, in the medium term, to supplying the 100% H2 pipelines of the gas transmission system operator, Ontras.

Jean-Baptiste Choimet, Managing Director of Elogen said,” We are particularly proud that the Elogen membrane electrolysis technology has been chosen for its performance by Enertrag, a leading European player in innovative renewable energy solutions. This is also an important step for Elogen since this contract concerns an electrolyzer with a capacity of 10 MW, confirming the scaling-up of our technology for larger projects.”

Manuela Blaicher, Head of Power-to-X Project Development at Enertrag SE said, “Enertrag is very proud to announce this step towards a 10-MW electrolysis capacity in Germany with many possibilities of deployment, both in industry and in the mobility sector. With this reference plant, we will produce hydrogen from renewable energies on an industrial scale.”
