SGS brings advanced H2 testing capabilities to France

SGS invests in a world-class H2 testing capabilities in Harfleur laboratory in France, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to deliver the full scope of analysis required to ensure H2 purity compliance. These services will help companies to manage their H2 quality and industrial risks. The experts use regional and global standards, including EN 17124, ISO 14687 and SAE J2719 and the laboratories are ISO 17025-accredited providing a range of services in Europe.

The H2 market

H2 is a nascent, rapidly growing global market. Its meteoric growth is in large part due to the Paris Climate Agreement and recent net-zero pledges from countries worldwide. Globally, the H2 market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.6% from 2022 to 2027. These bold predictions are perhaps unsurprising, considering over 30 countries have introduced expansive H2 strategies, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (especially in hard-to-abate sectors), diversify and secure their energy supply, integrate renewable energy, build up strategic reserves and develop H2 production capacity for both export and import markets.

H2 capabilities at the Le Havre Laboratory

SGS’s H2 experts have both in-field and laboratory experience giving them the capabilities to perform and interpret the most elaborate H2 analysis. The analyzers are fully integrated, meaning just one sample injection provides you with a full set of analysis results, reducing turnaround times, costs, and sample volumes.

They can sample H2 refueling stations, production sites, or any other site using H2 up to 700 bars of pressure. As an active member of the ISO/ TC 197 Technical Committees for H2 fuel quality, H2 quality control and sampling for fuel quality analysis. SGS’s H2 analysis can quantify impurities down to part per billion as required by the ISO 14687 Grade D.

These new laboratory capabilities will support our clients as they move towards lower carbon fuels and strengthen our market leadership position for H2 testing, in collaboration with our existing H2 facilities in Ireland and China.

SGS is an active member of Hydrogen Europe, and SGS is committed to supporting our clients throughout the H2 value chain. SGS also provides industrial quality consulting, risk assessments, asset integrity review, audit and inspections, and training for H2 market.
