EPM advances in a functional pilot that allows exploring technologies for obtaining and using green H₂, from the biogas currently produced in the Aguas Claras wastewater treatment plant in Bello, north of Valle de Aburrá.

The Inter-American Development Bank has approved a loan to support the development of the green H₂ industry and its derivatives in Chile. This operation seeks to help decarbonize the economy and generate new opportunities for the country’s productive development.

The Chinese giant CGN Brazil Energy signed this a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian company Quinto Energy aiming at the implementation of a mega complex of wind and solar energy, in the interior of Bahia, with a focus on the production of green H₂ on a large scale.

Fortescue Metals plans to develop a 300-MW green ammonia and fertilizer complex in Naivasha, Kenya. Once operational, the facility will increase domestic supplies of fertilizers and provide green H₂ to the nation’s electric grid.

Total active H₂ projects have increased by nearly 100 month-over-month (March–April), according to Gulf Energy Information’s Global Energy Infrastructure (GEI) database. With nearly 50% market share, Western Europe continues to account for most H₂ projects under development, followed by the Asia-Pacific region (22%) and the U.S. (13%).

Glenfarne Energy Transition, together with its affiliates, announces the execution and launch of a collaboration agreement with Samsung Engineering to complete feasibility studies for multiple green H₂ and ammonia projects in Chile as part of Glenfarne’s recently announced H₂ fuels initiative.

In early March, Lion Energy signed a Heads of Agreement with the Port of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia to lease land that will be used to build a green H₂ production and refueling facility. Once operational in 1Q 2024, Lion Energy will supply approximately 420 kg/d of green H₂ to heavy mobility vehicles in the region (e.g., bus fleets and heavy-duty vehicles). 

Ecopetrol began a test of sustainable mobility with low-emission H₂ began in Bogotá. The pilot includes a public transport bus for 50 passengers, which was assembled in Colombia. During the time of the test, it is expected to achieve a reduction of 1,083 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Petrobras’ CEO met with the CEOs of BP, Petronas and TotalEnergies about possible cooperation in the energy transition sector in Brazil, which includes bioenergy and H₂ production.

Casa dos Ventos and Comerc Eficiência signed a partnership with the TransHydrogen Alliance to enable the export of green ammonia produced at the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém.
