Western Australia (WA)-based renewable energy company Infinite Green Energy (IGE) to team up with global tech giant Samsung C&T to develop and build Arrowsmith H₂ plant. The Arrowsmith plant aims to deliver renewable H₂ to local and international markets.

The commercial scale green plant intends to meet the growing demand for H₂, with production planned to commence in 2028.

The McGowan government has welcomed IGE announcement that it has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung C&T to develop and build the Arrowsmith H₂ plant. Located 30 km south of Dongara, the wind and solar-powered plant is forecast to produce up to 300 tpd of green H2, or 100,000 tpy for domestic and export markets.

IGE is aiming to be Australia’s first zero-carbon commercial H₂ producer. IGE is also progressing the Northam MEG HP1, another renewable H₂ project in development with Samsung C&T.

H₂ Industry Minister, Roger Cook, said, “The McGowan Government welcomes this exciting development which sees WA progress as a significant producer, exporter and user of this emerging renewable energy source.

With the crucial need to diversify and decarbonize here and around the world, the McGowan Government is committed to the renewable H₂ sector to help reduce emissions to achieve net zero greenhouse emissions.”
